So I am trying to get a new phone system for my office due to us expanding our office space. I sat down with my boss and gave him my suggestions and then he agreed that we needed to upgrade our entire system as well as our handsets. I call our current phone system provider to come give us a quote for how much an entire system upgrade would cost us. The quote that came back was a little over $7K, however they are giving us a promo deal of trading in our current handsets so that we receive a discount. I then proceed to do some research (per corporates request) on other companies and how much they would charge for the same thing. Well what I was finding was that many people were not serving our phones whatsoever and for them to take care of everything was going to be upwards of $15K due to us having to switch phone systems. Well I found one company that services our current system and emailed them for a quote (I called and received the voicemail) and I never heard from them.
Yesterday we received an email from the building notifying us that they are going to recarpet and repaint starting tomorrow and going through the weekend. Well what that means is that we are going to have to move people out of their current offices and into their new offices. The one problem ---- we don't have the new space wired with new phones. So I call my contact within the company to kind of light a fire under her ass to hurry up and make a decision. Well she feels that we are being backed into a corner and led astray by our current company and that we should be able to get all refurbished parts and handsets for a very discounted price. This is where I am really starting to have issues:
- our current system is no longer serviceable by our current company because it has been discontinued and so we would have to switch providers,
- I used to work for an IT firm that did VoIP and I have seen first hand the damage a refurbished phone system can do to a company because if it fails - then you are up shit creek without a paddle and then you are forced to get an entirely new system at an elevated cost,
- the company that apparently does the refurbished phones is the same company that I never heard back from two weeks ago when I requested a quote. To me - that makes me not trust this company whatsoever because it is clear that they can't respond to a simple quote.
I am hoping that I am able to convince my boss that it is better for us to get the system upgrade instead of going with a company that sells refurbished parts and items are not under warranty.
