So on Saturday I returned from a week long rafting trip with my family down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon.  We traveled 187 miles on the river.  There were a total of 28 people, 6 staff (2 were children of the main guide), and 2 rafts.  I can honestly say that I have the most amazing experience of my life!

We went 5 days on the river and then stayed over 6 nights.  Some days we would go as many as 50 miles and others as few as 20 miles.  The days we did less miles we did a couple different hikes into the side canyons up to waterfalls and other really amazing places.  Currently I don't have internet at my house, but once I get it up and running (hopefully by the end of the week), I will post a lot of the pictures on Facebook (my dad took over 1500 so I won't post ALL).

Enjoy a few of the ones I really enjoy! :)

Lee's Ferry is where we started our trip!  Marble Canyon is the lodge that we stayed at the night before our week of adventure began.

These were our rafts for the trip.  Then we were given two bags - a day bag (small) and night bag (large).  The day bag kept anything that we wanted to access during the day (sunscreen, bug spray, towel, etc.) that we would want for any of the hikes we would go on.  The night bag held all of our other stuff (clothes, sleeping bag, tarp, sheet, etc.).  Every night we would put together a cot and sleep out under the stars because you did not need the tents - the view of the stars at night was UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS!!!

This was our view every time we went through the rapids!  It was so much fun riding the rapids because depending on the difficulty of it, you could ride out on one of the side tubes.  If you were one of the front two people on the raft, you had a 100% chance of getting wet and for a majority of the trip that was my dad and myself.  The water was FREEZING (40-45 degrees F), but it was so worth it!

Redwall Cavern - This place was amazing - it looks very small from the picture but it was probably 100 feet deep and 200 feet tall.  We had an absolute blast hanging out here for a while

We went to the Little Colorado River which runs into the Colorado River and I have never seen such BLUE water.  After a little hike up the side of the river you come to a natural water park.  We put on our life jackets like diapers (to protect our bums from rocks) and we created a long chain and rode down some small rapids.  We were here for about 2 hours and had a great time.

Family photo on the Colorado River.  In the mornings the water was quite cold and there wasn't a lot of consistent sun in the canyon so everyone wore their rain gear.

Typically camp set up for us.

Deer Creek - here we have hiked up about 200-300 feet above the Colorado River above Deer Creek and the 100ft waterfall.  This was one of the best views we got of the river that we had just floated down.

The whole group that was on the trip with us.  We all had an absolute blast together and made some lifelong friends out of this bunch!

The crew: Zach and Evan (these two were our boat guides) and then Brian and Eve, their nephew Sam, and the little one is their son Zach (Zachey-Zach!).

Now I feel that I have shown you as many photos as you probably want to see, but I am going to leave you with my favorite picture of the entire trip - Malin told my dad to go take this one as we all were just contemplating life and how nothing in the world matters more than enjoying yourself everyday!

About this blog

Like any girl in her 20's it can be a very challenging time...there are many things that come up in your 20's that you have no control over and at times it is extremely difficult to stay positive. For myself, I have graduated from college, started a job, been laid off from a job, been unemployed for 6+ months, started a new job, had a couple relationships, and let friendships fizzle away as well as have new ones blossom. Throughout all of this my main focus has been to try and stay positive that what happens in my life happens for a reason. I am slowly learning to take the bad with the good and the good with the bad.
